What cameras are compatible with the iRemote+? iRemote+ currently works with Digita-enabled cameras. It has been tested and works with the Kodak DC260, DC265, DC290 and Hewlett Packard C-500. The iRemote+ has not been tested with the Kodak DC220 or Minolta DImage, but it should work with both cameras. Doesn't the Kodak remote control cable do the same thing as the iRemote+? Unfortunately, the remote control cable for the Kodak DC290 isn't available right now. However, judging from the specifications for the Kodak remote device, it appears that 1) it's a cable tethered to the camera, and 2) it's only limited to control shutter release. Until Kodak actually releases the product, we won't know for certain. |

How do I set up the iRemote+ on the bracket? The bracket actually provides a lot of flexibility regarding the iRemote+ and camera setup. Since you can rotate the camera on the bracket once it has been attached, you can essentially point the iRemote+ in any direction to accommodate your needs (off to the side, behind, etc.). Just connect the camera to the bracket using the attaching screw, mount the bracket on the tripod, and then slide the iRemote+ into the flash shoe. Finally, connect your own serial cable from the iRemote+ to the camera. Where can I download the scripts and software for my camera? You can download scripts and applications for the iRemote+ from the "Download Software" section of the iRemote+ web site. Scripts are also available from www.digitacamera.com. What is RC5? RC5 is a protocol developed by Philips for use with remote controls. It defines a common protocol for a number of devices like television sets, VCRs, CD players, etc. It has been used by a number of electronic companies including Sony. How can I find out if my TV/video/stereo/sat remote control is compatible with the iRemote+? Power on the iRemote+ receiver and press a button on your own remote control. If your remote is emitting RC5 codes, the red LED on the iRemote+ will light briefly, confirming that it received a command. What type of batteries does the iRemote+ employ? The receiver uses a 9V battery while the included remote control uses a 12V lighter battery. I understand that the three-button remote controls the camera's shutter and zoom. How do I add additional capabilities if I use my own remote control? This solution will evolve over time. Initially, we're providing a "training capability" to a script that you can install on your memory card. You can then point your own remote control at the iRemote+ and "teach" the script the functions you'd like it to have from a remote standpoint. Can I use my Pilot's IR port with the iRemote+? Work is underway for a Palm Pilot application that would allow you to use the Palm as a remote and also set a number of parameters on the camera. There is no release date set for this application. Does the "IR-Show" application work with other cameras except the Kodak DC290? At this time, "IR-Show" works only with the Kodak DC290. When I'm outdoors and in direct sunlight, I can't use the iRemote+ at the maximum distance, or it looks like there are "random" commands issued. What is the problem? The iRemote+ uses infrared wave lengths as the medium of communication between the remote and the receiver. Sunlight contains a number of wavelengths that might "garble" the receiver, reducing sensitivity of the receiver. To avoid such problems, do not expose the iRemote+'s sensor to direct sunlight. I've set up the iRemote+ to take pictures of birds, but for some reason it won't work through the trees. What's the problem? The infrared controller works only by line of sight. This means that you have to have a clear view from where you are using the remote control to the iRemote+ base station. You specify that the iRemote+ will work up to 90 feet away. With my own remote control, I'm only getting around 30 feet. What's the problem? The iRemote+ is specified for use at 90 feet (approximately 30 meters) when used with the included remote control and an installation of fresh batteries. Most remote controls used for TV sets, VCRs, etc. do not have very powerful infrared LEDs, since they are designed to be used in environments where the distance from the control to the unit is less than 20-30 feet. I have noticed a degradation in performance of the included remote control. It looks like that I can no longer get the maximum distance. What is the problem? The maximum distance depends on a number of factors. However, degraded batteries are generally the main problem. First, replace the battery in the iRemote+ base unit. If the performance is still below specification, then replace the battery in the remote control. I see a blinking green light on the iRemote+ receiver. What does this mean? The battery in the iRemote+'s receiver requires replacement.
