An ultraviolet filter is probably one of the least expensive insurance policies you can buy! It acts as a protection to the primary camera lens, as well as filtering harmful UV rays, thus eliminating a "haze" effect.

The polarizing filter helps to eliminate reflections on glass and water by using two lenses (one fixed, one rotating) to "cancel" the reflection. Can be used to eliminate glare from water and to enhance blue sky.
