Xtend-a-Slide™ Plus slide and film converter
convert slides and film into versatile digital images

The Xtend-a-Slide slide and film converter is the heart of the Photosolve Xtend-a-Slide system. Coupled with the appropriate carrier for your slides, negatives or film, you can liberate those images into the digital realm.

The left side of the unit connects to your camera, through a combination of lens adapters, step up rings and/or lenses. 35mm slides, film negatives or transparencies are placed in the carrier on the right, for conversion to digital images.

The Xtend-a-Slide Plus film converter represents a significant design improvement from the original Xtend-a-Slide and Xtend-a-Slide Pro units, which had fixed barrel lengths and different slide carrier designs. Incorporating a patent-pending extensible barrel and a magnetic slide/film carrier, the Xtend-a-Slide Plus provides greater flexibility. The extensible barrel (1 inch to 5.5 inches) overcomes the fixed barrel limit of the previous models and competitors, which limited the amount of magnification that could be used. Some cameras, such as the Nikon 950, 990 and 995 have built-in macro capabilities which will allow the Xtend-a-Slide Plus to be used without any additional lenses, as noted in our camera compatibility and connection guide. The magnetic slide/film carrier can be continuously rotated, and moved about on the mounting ring, allowing the user to "straighten up" some shots as well as center certain areas of a shot.
Every digital camera is a bit different in how it attaches to the Xtend-a-Slide. On the left, there's a generic picture of the typical setup with camera, camera lens adapter, stepping rings, closeup lenses and the Xtend-a-Slide.

Your camera MUST have front threads, either through a lens adapter or built-in to the lens on the camera. The front of the Xtend-a-Slide Plus has 49mm threads, so you may need stepping rings to attach from your camera thread to the close-up lenses and Xtend-a-Slide. Please refer to the Xtend-a--Slide User guide to determine if you need close-up lenses if you can't find your camera model in the compatibility list.
